Students and Faculty attend the UDOT Annual Conference

Dr. Guthrie and students prepare to head to the UDOT Annual Conference.

Each fall the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) hosts the UDOT Annual Conference. The Conference provides an opportunity for UDOT employees, local area consultants, and local universities to celebrate success and learn about the future of transportation engineering in Utah. UDOT extends a warm invitation to the local universities to bring their brightest and best students to participate in the Conference. Each year the Brigham Young University (BYU) student group outshines those from the other universities, and 2013 was no different. The UDOT Annual Conference was held November 5-7, 2013. The students were invited to participate on Wednesday, November 6th. A group of 20 students signed up and assembled themselves to attend the Conference and had a great experience at the Conference. Students participated in the break-out sessions to learn about a variety of projects and topics related to all aspects of civil engineering, attended the vendor area to meet with prospective employers, and attended the luncheon to hear from newly appointed Director Carlos Braceras, and newly appointed Deputy Director (and BYU alumni) Shane Marshall. Some students participated in the technical program, including Shawn Larson who presented the results of his thesis in one of the breakout sessions. Several students commented on the wonderful experience that they had and all were appreciative of UDOT providing this opportunity to them.
