The semi-annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) career fair hosted 114 companies for hundreds of students seeking various employment and internship opportunities in September.
Co-sponsored by the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology and the university’s Career and Placement Services, the fair was open to all engineering, technology, math and science majors. Students came seeking various levels of employment.
"I'm looking for an internship,” said Cameron Chubbuck, a sophomore studying civil engineering. "As a sophomore I'm coming to learn more about what these companies are looking for, how I can prepare and what occupations there are. They have all been very helpful."
Employers in attendance were represented at the local and national level, each with a wide range of offers. Several students that have participated in the STEM fair in the past came with resume workshops, mock interviews and writing critiques under their belt, all in hopes of researching and landing the opportunity or career of their choice.
“I’m working now but not in my field, so I just keep coming,” said Brianna Ovuoba, a BYU 2010 civil engineering graduate. “I’m here looking for a full-time job. I want to know about the companies, what positions they are looking for, etc. Before coming, I went through some practice interviews and resume critiques.”
Students unable to attend the event, or seeking another opportunity, will be able to meet with recruiters for a chance to interview again at the Winter STEM Career Fair Feb. 2, 2012.
