Read
You are responsible for the accuracy of the Blackboard grade record. You will
be able to update it at any time during the semester until the deadline (April
21, 2010) through completing quizzes.
ATTENDANCE:
Possible
Attendance
(14 Points – Must complete Attendance Quizzes to receive credit):
one point for each CE department seminar and college lecture series you attend.
You can access the attendance quizzes in the “Attendance Quizzes” category
on Blackboard. Complete these one question quizzes to receive credit for attending
seminar/college lecture each week. These attendance quizzes will not be available
until you complete the Safety Training quiz (instructions listed below). Please
be present on time and remain seated until the end of all seminar/college
programs, after appropriate appreciation has been expressed to guest speakers.
Our guest presenters deserve this courtesy.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Points Possible
Safety Training
(Must complete Safety Training Quiz to have access to Attendance Quizzes): You are required to complete the Basic Emergency Safety
Training, Fire Extinguisher Training, and Electrical Safety Training once
a year as a seminar assignment. This assignment must be completed by January
15, 2010. These three safety trainings are found on Blackboard under
the CEEn Safety category. To verify that you have completed the training, you
must pass the quizzes that accompany each training (also located under the CEEn
Safety category on Blackboard). To pass the Quiz you must get 9 out
of 10 questions right. You may retake the quizzes as many times as needed
to get the required 9 out of 10. Once you have completed the three safety
trainings and their accompanying quizzes, complete the CEEn Safety Training
quiz found under the “Assignments” category on Blackboard. This
quiz is simply to report you have completed and passed the Safety Training quizzes. Be
aware that each training takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. If
you need further information contact Rodney Mayo at rodney_mayo [at] byu [dot] edu (rodney_mayo [at] byu [dot] edu). If
you have completed the safety training within the past year, all you need to
do is complete the CEEn Safety Training quiz found under the “Assignments”
category on Blackboard by January 15, 2010. Until you complete
this Safety Training quiz, you will not have access to any of the attendance
quizzes.
CAEDM Account
(1 Point – Must complete CAEDM Quiz to receive credit):
your
account by January 28, 2010. You need to complete this quiz, regardless
if you enabled your account during a previous semester. You will need to take
this quiz in 100A, 100B, 200A, and 200B even though you only need to set up
the CAEDM
account once. This is meant to ensure all freshman AND new transfer students
have the opportunity to set up their accounts. If this is your first enrollment
in seminar, before you take this quiz, you need to enable your
account. You can sign up for it outside of the
lab, room 423 CB. This account has an associated email account where the address
is in the form of: username [at] et [dot] byu [dot] edu (username [at] et [dot] byu [dot] edu)
In order to receive emails about service hours and chapter activities, you must
have this email address enabled. You must enable your account and report that
you have enabled it by completing the CAEDM Quiz under the “Assignments”
category on Blackboard on or before January 28, 2010 to receive credit.
MyMAP (4 Points
– Must turn in hard-copy Four-Year Schedule to CE office, meet with Kerry, and
enter the information on the online My-MAP to receive credit):
in a 200-level seminar, whether that is 200A or 200B. It does not need to be
completed again during your second enrollment in a 200-level seminar. (However,
if you completed your MyMAP during the Fall 2009 semester, verify the
CE office has auto-filled 4 points for the MyMAP assignment on your grade record
for the current semester. This will take place around the second week of class;
a Blackboard announcement will be posted when it does take place. If the points
are not entered, it is your responsibility to send an email to
this assignment, or you will not receive the 4 points. If you completed the
MyMAP prior to the Fall 2009 semester, your points will NOT be auto-filled;
it is your responsibility to send an email to
this assignment, or you will not receive the 4 points.)
For this assignment, you
need to complete a graduation plan that accounts for all General Education
and Civil Engineering program requirements you have left. You must record
this plan on the coral Four-Year Schedule sheet (pick this sheet up in the CE
office) as well as entering the information on MyMAP – the University’s electronic
graduation planning tool. Your course schedule must list courses in prerequisite
order as well as have classes listed only during semesters they are offered.
Use the flowchart and the four-year course scheduling aid to assist you as you
plan out your schedule. Please do not refer to the information on the MyMAP
system for when future CE courses are offered (it is not accurate), instead
use the four-year course scheduling aid. You will then turn in your completed
coral Four-Year Schedule to the CE front desk secretaries and sign up for a
time to meet with Kerry who will review/approve your Four-Year Schedule graduation
plan. You cannot schedule a time to meet with Kerry until you turn in your graduation
plan. Do this early, as there are limited interview spots. If she makes any
changes to the hard-copy, you must enter those changes on MyMAP, so that MyMAP
matches the hard-copy Four-Year Plan exactly. A copy of the approved graduation
plan will be put into your department records. Kerry will also confirm that
you have entered the data into MyMAP accurately before awarding points for the
assignment. Information has to be approved and entered into MyMAP by February
11, 2010.
Seminar Notebook
notebook during class or to CE office to receive credit):
in a composition notebook that is due in class on the last seminar of the semester
– April 8, 2010. For students in 200B section 2, this notebook is due
by April 21, 2010 and should be turned into the CE secretaries. Once
your notebook is graded, you will pick it up from the CE office to reuse for
note taking in all your future seminars. You will then use these notes to assist
you in writing papers during your Senior Seminar (400C). If you would like to
know more about the 400C paper requirements in order to better tailor your seminar
notes, refer to the 400C Grading Policy on the CE webpage.
ASCE Service/Activities
(5 Points – Must complete Service/Activity Quizzes to receive credit): You must spend
a minimum of five hours to complete these points. Three of the five points must
be from an ASCE sponsored service project. The other two can either be from
an ASCE sponsored service project or activity/field trip. Chapter service and
activity points are awarded on the following basis. One point is given
for each hour you spend working on an ASCE service project. Only time
spent working on service projects sponsored by the ASCE student chapter qualify
for these points. One point is given for each non-service
ASCE activity/field trip you attend (not for each hour you spend at the
activity). Record your points on Blackboard by completing a quiz in the “Service/Activity
Point Quizzes” category after each hour of service you give or activity
you attend. These service/activity quizzes must be completed before April
21, 2010.
**Note: You will only
be able to record your participation in service projects and activities that
are approved ASCE service projects and activities. To see what service projects/activities
will qualify for these points, refer to the Weekly Announcements for
items labeled Service or Activity Points under the “Weekly
Announcements” category
on Blackboard. Service projects and activities will be added periodically throughout
the semester as they are announced. If you find that a service project or activity
has been announced, but is not specified in the weekly announcements, contact
an ASCE officer to verify that they have notified the CE secretaries of it existence.
